A retired Colonel, and purged associate of former Military Intelligence chief Gen Khin Nyunt, U Hla Min goes to great effort to justify the 1990 military coup and the positive development it allegedly bought to the nation in the years after. The author is clearly not impartial and the narrative shows. Constant rationalisation of human right abuses makes difficult for reading. If nothing else though, it survives as valuable frame to the thought processes needed in morally explaining these abuses away.
