Myanmar Launch of Hidden Words Anthology

Contributing author and translator, San Lin Tun started the event with a rundown of the projects five year history, followed by two panel sessions.
Ethnic Short Stories featured Shan writer and cartoonist Sai Sang Pe, Chin writer and editor June Nilian Sang and ethnic Mon writer Daw Mi Chan Wai in discussion on the past, present and future of short stories in the ethnic languages. The session was chaired by writer and photo-journalist Letyar Tun.
The second session, Word Bridges, followed the creative process of translating the fourteen features stories from ethnic languages, to Burmese and into English with contributions from Sayar Lay Ko Tin, Ma Khin Hnit Oo, Letyar Tun and San Lin Tun. The session was guided by award winning dramatist and translator U Ye Htut.
In between, a trilingual live reading of June Nilian Sangs story, Takeaway Brides in the original Lai Hakha language, followed by the Burmese rendition by Yu Ya and the English version by Letyar Tun.
The event was by invitation only though copies of the anthology will be distributed throughout the country in the coming weeks.
